One more role model appreciation picture!

MCL Basketball Tournament games are set to begin this Saturday. Our Lady Railers have drawn the #9 seed and will travel to Norton to take on the #8 seeded Blue Jays. Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 4:30pm in Stull Gym.
The girls will play again on Monday, January 19, at Hoxie. A loss on Saturday matches them with the loser of the Hill City vs. Plainville contest. That game would be played at 6:00pm. A win on Saturday matches them with Hoxie. That game would be played at 7:30pm.
Our Boys' are the #5 seed and will travel to Plainville on Tuesday, January 20, to take on the #4 seeded Cardinals. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm.

Congratulations to the 2026 Snowball Candidates! The Annual Snowball Dance will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM. The crowning ceremony will occur at 10:00 PM, and parents and community members are invited to attend. The Snowball Dance is a semi-formal dance open to all Ellis High School students in grades 9-12.

Congratulations to Ellis High School Head Coach Mark Wildeman on his recent honor. Coach Wildeman was awarded the 2025 1A Girls Track and Field Coach of the Year by the Kansas Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association. Coach Wildeman has spent the past five seasons leading the Railer Cross Country program, and the past two as the head coach of the track and field teams. During this tenure, Ellis High School student-athletes have won two individual titles in cross country and have seen records shattered along the way. The girls' track and field team has finished as state runners-up and state champions the past two seasons, which includes multiple individual state champions and several school record holders as well. Congratulations to Coach Wildeman on this well-deserved honor and for being an outstanding leader for our students!

Saturday brough the first competition for the Railer Boys Wrestling in 2026, venturing across the state line to Franklin, Nebraska. The tournament boasted 18 teams, including one of the largest and best wrestling schools in the state, Kearney. Railer Boys took 5 competitors and all 5 placed in the top 5. Overall, our small team placed 8th, just a few matches out of the Top 5.
Individual results:
120 - Korbyn Kroeger, 4th. He lost to the same wrestler from Alma twice, landing in the Top 4.
126 - Carter Jimenez, 5th place, wrestled with fierce determination, losing to two quality teams, Kearney and Alma.
138 - Asher Haag, 1st. He found himself for the third straight tournament at the top of the podium, going 3-0 on the day.
144 - Kooper Hankins, 5th place, wrestled 3 hard-fought matches, finishing 1-2 on the day.
150 - Jack Reed, 4th. He found the podium in a crazy consolation match.

The Lady Railer Wrestlers opened the first competition of 2026 across the state line on Friday in Franklin, Nebraska. A total of 18 teams competed, and the Lady Railers found themselves just out of bringing a trophy home, finishing 4th as a team. Individual results:
Piper McClung found herself on the podium in 3rd place.
Kia Mader ended up falling in the championship match, placing 2nd on the day.
*Both Piper and Kia’s weight classes were loaded with top Nebraska wrestlers.
Maggie Downing also found herself in the championship, coming up with a 2nd place finish.
Lyla Richards was the first of two Lady Railer Champions, going 3-0 on the day.
Hannah James completed the championship duo for the Lady Railers, going 4-0 on the day.
The Lady Railers are in action two times this week, first at Hoisington on Thursday and second at Hays High on Saturday.





The EHS/JH Chess Team had a great outing yesterday at K-State! Henry Brull finished 7th in the K-12 bracket with 4 points out of 6, while Brandon Gilbert finished 10th in the K-8 side with 3.5 points of 6! Both have officially qualified for State Chess in March! Beckett Longbine and Talon Pyle also both finished with 3 points of 6. Proud of all of our chess players. Railer chess has another opportunity on the 24th at TMP!










The Ellis Jr./Sr. High School Chess Club is heading to Kansas State University for the K-State Chess Tournament. This event will begin at 9:00 AM and is hosted by the Kansas Scholastic Chess Association (KSCA).
