Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team hosted Hill City for their first game of the 2023 season on Oct. 30, 2023. Ellis has a small number of girls out for this year’s team and so the J.V. game was limited to two quarters.
In the varsity contest. Ellis scored most of their 12 points in the 4th quarter while Hill City was able to spread out their 30 points throughout the game. Final score was Ellis 12 and Hill City 30.
Leading scorers for Ellis was shared by Rylan Aschenbrenner and Taryn Boydston with five points each. Haylee Comer had two. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Lyla Richards with six followed by Comer and Aschenbrenner each with five boards. Adalynn Hamel and Maggie Downing each had three rebounds and Makinley Rhoden had two. Ellis out-rebounded Hill City 24 to 18.
In the two quarters of the J.V. game, Ellis won 11 to 0. Leading scorer for Ellis was Hamel with six points, Boydston had three and Aschenbrenner had two. Ellis had only two rebounds with Hamel and Downing each having one.
The Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team traveled to Plainville for their first away game of the 2023 season. Plainville came away winning both contests for varsity and J.V.
In the varsity game, Ellis was held to an eight point deficit in the first quarter and continued to struggle to regain any ground. Final score was Ellis 20 to Plainville 36.
Leading scorer for Ellis was Rylan Aschenbrenner with seven points and Taryn Boydston followed with six. Lyla Richards had three points and Makinley Rhoden and Haylee Comer each had two. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Richards with six boards followed by Comer with five. Rhoden and Boydston each had two rebounds and Aschenbrenner had one.
In the two quarters played for J.V., Ellis lost the game 7 to Plainville 20. Leading scorers for Ellis was shared with Aschenbrenner, Richards and Maddison Rummel each with two points. Adalynn Hamel had one point. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Hamel with 4 boards. Maggie Downing had two rebounds and Rummel, Rhoden and Aschenbrenner each had one.
Ellis then faced TMP for the championship of which they struggled throughout, losing to TMP 33 to 4 giving Ellis the 2nd place finish. Schiel scored all four of Ellis’ points. Leading rebounder was Karst with nine. Richards, Schiel and McClung each had four followed by Bencze with three, Fitzgerald had two and Merriman had one.
