The EJH girls basketball team hosted the Trego Eagles on Nov. 7th but were not able to defeat Trego as the J.V. lost 5-15 and the varsity lost 20-2.

In the varsity contest, while Ellis played defense well, the only person to score for Ellis was Adalynn Hamel for two points.  Trego also out-rebounded Ellis 29 to 20 boards.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Lila Richards with nine rebounds followed by Haylee Comer with eight.  Hamel, Mackinley Rhoden and Rylan Aschenbrenner each contributed one rebound.

In the two quarters of the J.V. game, Rhoden had three points and Aschenbrenner had two.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Hamel with three followed by Maggie Downing with two.  Richards, Comer, Rhoden and Aschenbrenner each had one board.

Coach Sheryl Butler commented on the game, “We definitely are struggling this year with our low number of girls that are playing basketball this year, making it difficult to have ‘game like’ practices and not having the ability to prepare as well.  In spite of that, I was very proud of the girls’ defense tonight though – that shows by keeping Trego to 20 points.”


The Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team traveled out to Oakley on Nov. 9th with two less players due to illness and injury leaving only seven girls to play two quarters of JV and a full varsity game.  Ellis struggled throughout both contests and got into tremendous foul trouble early in the varsity game going into the half with four of the five starters with three fouls each.  Ellis lost the varsity game 10-50 but won the JV contest 10-4.

Leading scorer for Ellis was Rylan Aschenbrenner with six points, Mackinley Rhoden had two and Adalynn Hamel and Taryn had one point each.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Rhoden with four followed by Aschenbrenner and Boydston each with three and Hamel, Lyla Richards and Maggie Downing each had one board.

In the two quarters played for J.V., leading scorer was Hamel with six points followed by Aschenbrenner with four.  Leading rebounder was Hamel with three followed by Rhoden with three.  Nora Andrews, Richards, Downing, Aschenbrenner and Boydston all had one rebound each.
