The Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team traveled to WaKeeney to take on the Trego Eagles. Trego lead throughout the game. Trego was ahead by just three after the first quarter and broadened that lead to five points at the half making it Trego 14 to Ellis 9. Trego was able to score an additional six point in the third quarter with Ellis only being able to add two. The fourth quarter had very little scoring for either team with Trego only adding two points and Ellis could not add any. The final score was Trego 22 to Ellis 11.

Leading scorer for Ellis was Jocelyn Eck with five points followed by Taylor Kohl with four and Jersee Fabrizius added two points. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Kohl with seven boards, Libby Schiel with six. Eck had three rebounds and Evelyn Merriman had two. Trego out-rebounded Ellis 28 to 18.

In the JV game, the contest was close throughout. Ellis squeezed out a win by one point with the final score Ellis 12 to Trego 11.

Leading scorer for Ellis JV was Rylan Aschenbrenner with six points, Adalyn Hamel had four and Schiel had two points. Leading rebounder for Ellis JV was Aschenbrenner with five boards. Piper McClung and Schiel each had three. Dora Bencze and Lyla Richards each had two and Maggie Fitzgerald, Mackinley Rhoden and Merriman each had one.

Coach Sheryl Butler commented on the game, “The girls fought hard throughout the game. Trego has 12 eighth graders this year which makes us have to compete with a lot of experience. We need to work on boxing out better and continue to work on our shooting ability.”
