The Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team traveled to the MCEL tournament in Plainville on Dec. 2nd for a re-match with Russell for the first round of the tournament. Russell had beat Ellis just by three points a week earlier and Ellis came ready to play. The contest proved to be a very tight defensive one. Ellis lead at the half by two. Ellis continued to work hard to beat the Russell Broncos 10 to 5 allowing Ellis to continue on in the tournament.

Ellis’ scoring was evenly distributed with Jocelyn Eck, Taylor Kohl, Leah Reed, Raegan Jiminez and Gracelynn Hamel each scoring two points. Leading rebounders for Ellis was shared by Hamel and Avery Boydston each with six boards. Reed had three, Eck had two and Kohl and Jiminez each had one.

On Saturday, Ellis continued in the tournament, taking on the third ranked Smith Center girls. Smith Center’s press was causing issues for Ellis and Smith Center led comfortably throughout. Final score was Smith Center 37 to Ellis 16.

Leading scorers for Ellis was shared by Sienna Schmidt and Jocelyn Eck each with four points. Avery Boydston, Leah Reed and Gracelynn Hamel each had two points. Leading rebounders for Ellis was Boydston and Hamel each with six, followed by Eck with five, Reed had four, Raegan Jiminez had three and Kohl and Schmidt each had two.
