Junior High Girls Basketball Results / Week of 12/4/23

The EJH girls basketball team traveled the short distance on Dec. 5, 2023 to play TMP.  Ellis was only able to play a varsity game due to sickness and being ‘short-handed’ on players.

TMP jumped to a defining lead from the beginning of the contest going into the half leading 31 to 8.  Ellis was only able to add six more points to their score and TMP went onto win the game 53-14. 

Scoring for Ellis included Taryn Boydston with seven points, Rylan Aschenbrenner had four and Macinley Rhoden had three.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was tied between Haylee Comer and Rhoden with four boards.  Maggie Downing had three rebounds, Aschenbrenner had two and Boydston added one board to the total of 14 rebounds compared to TMP’s 24.

Coach Sheryl Butler commented, “We knew that TMP always has a lot of talented girls and we were going to have a tough game.  I’m proud of our girls for working hard for the entire game in spite of going up against a team that is able to ‘platoon’ subs in throughout and has both some size, talent and quickness to deal with.”

 

 

The Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team traveled to play in the Phillipsburg Panther Invitational Tournament that was held on Saturday Dec. 9, 2023.

Ellis went up against TMP in the first round of which Ellis played the Lady Monarchs four days prior.  TMP took the lead by the half 21-6.  The Lady Monarchs were able to finish out the game on top 37-15. 

Leading scorer for Ellis was Adalynn Hamel with six points followed by Haylee Comer with four.  Mackinley Rhoden and Rylan Aschenbrenner each had two and Taryn Boydston contributed one point.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Comer with a career high of 12.  Hamel and Lyla Richards each had three rebounds, Rhoden and Boydston each had two and Aschenbrenner had one board.

In the second round, Ellis played the Phillipsburg Panthers.  The contest was a lot closer throughout but the Panthers were able to retain the lead, winning the contest 21-16.

Leading scorer for Ellis was a three-way tie between Hamel, Aschenbrenner and Boydston each with four points.  Comer and Rhoden each had two points.  Leading rebounder was Comer with eight boards.  Richards and Aschenbrenner each had five rebounds followed by Rhoden with four, Hamel with three, Boydston with two and Maddison Rummell had one rebound.
